High blood pressure is the leading cause of strokes. Excess weight also increases your chances of developing other problems which is linked to strokes like high cholesterol, high blood sugar, and heart disease.

A 10 kg higher body weight is associated with a 3.0 mm Hg higher systolic and 2.3 mm higher diastolic blood pressure; this increase estimates a 12% increase in coronary heart disease and 24% increased risk for stroke.

More than 90 percent of people with type 2 diabetes are overweight or affected by a degree    of obesity.
